Helix Jump — Spin the Tower, Miss the Red

Arcade

Helix Jump: a bouncing ball, a spiral tower and one rule

Helix Jump came out of Voodoo's studio in early 2018 and spent most of that year at the top of the app charts, which is unusual for a game you can explain in one sentence: a ball bounces down a tower made of stacked ring platforms, you rotate the tower with your finger, and you steer the ball into the gaps while keeping it off the red segments. The web build on helixjump.me is the same game, the same physics and the same slightly cheeky bounce sound, running as an HTML5 page with nothing to install. Drag with the mouse on a laptop or swipe on a phone; there is no menu to learn and a run starts the moment you touch the screen.

What keeps people on it is the smash mechanic. Land on every floor and you crawl down the tower a bounce at a time, scoring a point or two per platform. Line up the gaps so the ball drops through three or more floors without touching anything and it lights up, gains a score multiplier and turns into a battering ram that breaks through the next platform it hits, red or not. Good runs are a rhythm of tiny corrections and deliberate long drops, and the towers get busier with red as the level counter climbs. It is a two-minute game that quietly turns into twenty.

How to score higher in Helix Jump

  1. Look two floors down, not one: The ball hangs in the air long enough to see the next gap coming. Line the tower up for the floor after the one you are about to hit and you will drop through both, which is where the multiplier starts.
  2. Use the smash on purpose: After a three-floor fall the ball glows and breaks through whatever it lands on next. That is the one moment a red segment is safe, so aim the glowing ball at the thickest band of red rather than around it.
  3. Small drags, not big spins: Most deaths come from over-rotating into a red segment that was never in the way. Nudge the tower a few degrees at a time and only commit to a long spin when the whole ring below is red on one side.
  4. Slow down on a new level: Each level starts with a fresh tower and a different red pattern. Take the first three or four floors carefully, read where the red sits, then chase the long falls once you can see the rhythm.

Key features

  • One-touch control: A single drag rotates the tower; there is nothing else to press, so it plays as well on a phone as with a mouse.
  • Smash combos: Skipping three or more floors turns the ball into a smash that breaks through the next platform and multiplies the score.
  • Endless levels: Every completed tower is followed by a taller one with more red, so there is always a next level and a best score to beat.
  • Runs in the page: The HTML5 build is served from helixjump.me itself: nothing installs, no account, and it works on a Chromebook.

Game info

  • Title: Helix Jump
  • Developer: Voodoo
  • Category: Arcade
  • Platform: Web browser (HTML5)
  • Released: 2018 (mobile); HTML5 browser version

Pro tip: The score counter shows '+' followed by a number for a moment after each landing: that is the multiplier for the fall you just made. If it keeps reading one or two, you are landing on every floor. Force a longer drop early in each tower, even at the cost of a slower start, because a single five-floor fall is worth more than a dozen careful bounces.

Frequently asked questions

What is Helix Jump?

A one-touch arcade game by Voodoo, first released on phones in 2018. A ball bounces down a spiral tower of ring platforms; you rotate the tower so the ball falls through the gaps and never lands on a red segment. Reach the bottom to finish a level.

How do I control Helix Jump in the browser?

Hold the mouse button and drag left or right to turn the tower; on a phone or tablet, swipe. Click or tap once to start a run and again to restart after a fall. There are no keyboard controls in this build.

What is the glowing ball?

Fall through three or more platforms without landing and the ball enters smash mode: it glows, scores more per floor and breaks through the next platform it hits, even a red one. Landing on a floor resets it.

Is Helix Jump free to play here?

Yes. The HTML5 version is served from helixjump.me and plays free in your browser with no download, no sign-up and no time limit. Your best score is kept in the browser's storage.

Does it work on a phone or a Chromebook?

It runs in any modern browser. On a phone the frame is tall to match the tower; on a laptop or Chromebook it fills the player width, and the fullscreen button under the game gives it the whole screen.
